Mbappe is respected by the whole french squad and is both everybody's friend and the one they look up to, so I don't understand how "Mbappe is not the character I would want as a captain" but Griezmann would, like everybody loves Griezmann but he's more of a funny guy than a vocal leader. Meanwhile Mbappe is giving speeches at the half time of a World cup final with his team losing 0-2 and it worked.
    I think the first pundit explained the situation very well : There's a new generation of players in the french squad which is insanely talented and they all look up to Mbappe and are good friends with him. Right now the objective of this team is very clear : taking both next euro and next world cup, and you have to start the cycle as soon as possible for the team to be ready.

    Messi got captaincy from Mascherano at only 24yo, 2 years later he was leading his team to a world cup final. And i don't think Messi is such a great vocal leader, but everybody respected him in the squad and the most important thing is what you does on the pitch. And Messi always had this thing with Argentina where he was making the whole squad play better by showing the example.

  2. I believe Kylian Mbappé will be a great leader as a captain. He is well known to have a strong personality great on communication with the press (he always says what he thinks and believes)
    Obviously you don’t have enough translations on the press conference that Kilian MbappĂ© does. When ask why don’t you defend more he always reply “ I do what I’m ask to do by the coach “ and D. Deschamps says he wants to preserve him, he needs to be ready to run not to be hurt by defending.

  3. There's obviously a real difference between how Mbappe is perceived in france or Belgium and outside of it, and I think the reason for that is the language barrier. Since he's been 17yo, EVERY SINGLE TIME he spoke in front of the medias, he had a perfect communication. He had the perfect answer for every trap set and often had to talk when times were tough for his teams, he's always very lucid about what's happening and is able to admit and correct his flaws cause he knows that not every critic is good to take but that some are needful. He has confidence but never cross the line of arrogance, and the most important thing is that his words are confirmed on the pitch.
    So it's kinda weird to me when he's seen as an arrogant egoistic player outside of france, cause in france this dude achieves unanimity and trust me, it's very hard to do that there and only Zidane had such a privilege until now

  4. Steve is absolutely bugging… by his definition of captain then neither Messi or Ronaldo should be captains of their team. A captain should inspire by his actions and words and thats exactly what Mbappe does, especially for the national team

  16. what a absurd statement from stevie about Mbappe can't be captain simply because he doesn't "press" enough and "stands on the half way line". most number 1 attacking players are the worse pressers, their job is to score and create goals. you can't tell me he didn't influence the game yesterday, let alone what he did in the WWCF. Messi, CR7, even stevie's beloved Salah ain't known for their pressing and defending abilities, it's not their job. 100% guarantee you Mbappe's teammates couldn't give a care in the world about his defending, because they know what he brings in attack. just absurd statement to make seriously.

In order to understand MBappe you need to listen to him speaking in French. He will be a great captain because he is capable of adapting to a different role on the pitch due to his great intelligence.
