There had been a buy out clause in his contract at Barcelona, a new world record fee, which Real Madrid met, and his arrival at Madrid signalled the beginning of Florentino Pérez’s «Galáctico era» of global stars signed by the club every year.

Figo became the new focus of the Barcelona–Real Madrid rivalry, with Barcelona fans feeling betrayed by his transfer and turned against him.

  3. I'm a fan of Barça and i love the team. But honestly i could understand Figo here. He was asking for more money and Gaspart didn't want to give it to him. I was at Barcelona at that time and I saw how the city felt about this. But I understand him honestly.

Players of Figo's status and reputation would not leave only for money, there was something else that he wanted and he looked to compensate with by planning to ask for more money (which as it says in this video – backfired on him). Players or even Employees always leave the Management, not the job or not the teammates or colleagues or the fans or whatever. And it is not always the money. There is a satisfaction factor, which is maybe different for every individual who could be doing the same/similar job.

  6. If Barcelona really loved him, they would’ve offered him more money without him resorting to signing a contract with another club just to make them realise he was worth paying for. Goes both ways. Besides, there’s more to life than some other guy’s football career. Football fans seriously need to get over themselves.

Big reason was more money to play, Real paid 60M buy out to Bar and if Figo didn’t play for Real, the club was getting 30m. All sides playing high stakes poker. Bar new president was not reckless with money so he couldn’t agree to everything Figos agent was looking for to stay at Real. Bar was getting so much money from Real, who would turn it down? They can’t. In the contract anyway. At the time, it was the right thing to do. Today, some clubs owe the banks silly amounts of cash all for glory? Hope they think it’s worth it as all players become Millionaires.

  22. Real Madrid is always trying to steal the Barcelona players. They have even kidnapped Di, Stefano from Barcelona. The Spanish dictator Franko have sent his agents to Barcelona, to intimidate Di Stefano and the Barca president. And they have taken Di Stefano to Madrid.😂😂😂 That is crazy.
