  1. yes Stanley Matthews was the best player in the world then, ignorant French journalist, typical Frenchman hating the English winners. Stanley Matthews was well before my time but my dad says he was easily the best player in the world, and as well known at the time as Messi now, and he knows a lot more about football than me, having been a top coach. Also Michael Owen was well deserving of it at that time. How about one of the years Ronaldo or Messi won it, as one of them won it every year for so long, Suarez was definitely the best in the world in his prime years and should have won it, yet Messi and Ronaldo got it after having average years.
