ESPN FC’s Herculez Gomez joins Sebastian Salazar on Futbol Americas to discuss how USMNT got it wrong in their penalty defeat to Panama in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Seb thinks B.J. Callaghan got the starting line up right but feels nobody should be surprised that Panama worked this side the way they did.

Let's admit it, Gold is not that valuable anymore. Rename the Cup to Oil & Gas Cup 😉 and the team will bounce back.
yall coping
Usa team in this tournament the referees decisions were bias pro usa . Particularly the game against canada
Neal definitely raised his stock
🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦 Grande mi país!
I definitely agree with Herc's comment about trying an Olympics team to give them experience.
Shame On USA Team Players They Can't Win On The Home Land Soil, We American Will Be Very Proud if Our Team Wins, I Vat Believe Me Same Thing Gonna Be Happened On 2026, USA is A Big Country What Kind of Players They Pick They Don't Have Enough Energy….
Panama 🇵🇦 is the better team the go Panama.
Lennard Maloney could quickly rise as a option as a 6 defensive midfielder. He played there this season for Heidenheim as they won promotion to the Bundesliga. Only 23 and was in the Dortmund system before this year.
You got the thumbnail wrong. It should be a shot of BJ Callahan and GGG. These last couple games have had Berhalter's prints all over them.
But good news!!! Berhalter is coming back!!! rofl
😂
B Team?!? This is more like our C/D team lol. Aside from turner no one else should be anywhere near our A team!
Stop giving this group credit they are not a B squad this is not the quality required of a US B team at this moment in time. We have much better players that don't even get called to the A team. We've found the chaffe and a lot of this roster is chaffe. Long, Miazga, Roldan, Gressel, Zendejas, Yedlin, Morris. All should not be called into camp again. I'm excited by Neal, Jones, Reynolds, and I'm surprised at Busio's progress. Vasquez and Fereira need to leave MLS ASAP or they will keep seeing themselves fall down the depth chart. IT IS SINK OR SWIM BOYS WE GOT A WORLD CUP TO HUNT!
Relax you all gave a @ 6* -0. Win on the womens side of US soccer…we are paying it forward
Thank you Herc for saying a few good things about the Sounder and former Sounder players Yedlin, Roldan and Morris. This was their last international and I thought all three gave it the best they had (not counting PK's). You and Sebastian were spot on about how poorly the first half was played by the U.S. squad and I can not imagine more than Turner being looked at very strongly for the A team.
Can we all just be g🌈y 😂
Since when is the gold cup not as important as the nations league? 💀, I mean both these comps are weak but the US gotta stop acting like the nations league is a better comp when in reality they are the same 😂💀
This was a terrible performance by the team. Frankly virtually the entire team did nothing to advance their case to make the A roster. This was a failure and there was no point to this tournament. Why didn't they play u-23 or u-20s. Agree that James Sands had a solid showing through the tournament.
Embarrassing failure for USA to lose to Panama. How are we expected to win the World Cup if we lose these games
The US "A team" also squeak by. You can't just outrun everyone with fitness, you need quality too.
Panama has proven to be CONCACAF top 4 team and only going to get better in the next 2 years and the us does not take the gold cup seriously it’s going to be a issue when they go to copa America because they send players that want to compete
Sad seing that rich countries like Panama are beating the poor countries than can't even paid for their healthcare.
I feel like CONCACAF is encouraging countries to send B-squads with the volume of tournaments.
Nations League /every year/ and Gold Cup every two years? This summer was already so short for players because of how FIFA finagled the calendar to accommodate WC 2022 being in the fall. On top of that, to have basically a month and a half booked up in two separate tournaments seemed more than a bit excessive.
To act in any way that Panama is a good team is a JOKE. Panama, US, Mexico, all these teams are awful. The US needs an actual coach, and Mexico needs a total reset
Herc does a nice job w his analysis. Thorough and honest.
Yeah, well… maybe the tournament would mean something if it wasn't every two years, and it was treated in the same way as the Euros. Pretty simple.
Apparently the "Pirate of the Caribbean" was quartered..
The fact that Miazga Is a starter In the USMNT Is incredible…D list player.
Mexico got a B/c team and is Finna win all💀💀
This y’all A team?😂😂😂
Herc is correct
Bro they have rec league players starting on this gold cup roster lmfao complete randoms besides turner d team at best but you wanna win a tournament where other countries send out their best because it means something to them. I thought gold cup Copa oro was more important than some nations league.
2 shootouts and got outplayed by Panama good for Panama! We got guys who can’t hit the target allowing runs in behind etc
Talk about damage control
Wow hard to believe that the next world chp champions lost to a third world country!
Most of the those on the field played 120 minutes and then a shootout 3 days prior to this game…is it really shocking that they had tired legs and were "a step off"? If that early chance by Cowell went in it would probably have changed the entire game. In the long run, this tournament was not about trophies for us, but more about identifying candidates for the "A" team moving forward. To that end, I think a lot was learned by the powers that be.
Anybody who says this is a B team is not being serious. This is a C team at best. You have one A player in Turner, two B players in The Pirate and Myles Robinson, the rest are C players.
USA and football, think Venezuela and ice hockey
