  1. The Netherlands will make it to the Quarter Finales bare minimum… this team is hard to beat, it's maybe not the dutch team we used to see with the best strikers in the world but it's a team with the best defenders in the world right now!

  2. All this harping on on missing a striker. Look at how many goals they've scored. And look at the past record on who scored. The Dutch have never relied on just one killer striker. It helps, sure, but it's nothing new. In this team, many players can score. Memphis (obviously), Berghuis, Bergwijn, Gakpo, Klaasen, van Dijk, de Ligt, Dumfries, L. de Jong, de Vrij. No shortage of goals. IF, they can play their game.

  3. Also, shouldn't Sarr have been awarded a penalty when Ake grabbed by the waist and half spun him as he jumped for a header?!.. Argentina got awarded a penalty which I don't think was that straight forward.

  4. Haha a draw right…was low-key rooting for Senegal but I'm now all Morocco…guys couldn't simply keep the ball on the ground! And when they attacked, kept going backwards. After what I saw yesterday, they could finish last in the group.

  5. Senegal played well and were fairly organized. They had chances but Netherlands had a slightly better cutting edge and that killer instinct to punish lapses in concentration from Senegal. Also, Frenjie DJ was fairly free to move about and pick out players and run the channels. Senegal missed such a midfield conductor.

  6. LvG played his team tactical against a very solid and physical Senegal. These guys played the entire Africa cup with a sort of counter football and LvG solved this by giving them control over midfield. They did not have much of a clue how to pass it over to the final third because there was still a very solid 5 man defence. So Senegal may have looked good at the ball and had a lot of posession, but it was because The Netherlands let them. They played with ONLY F de Jong as a midfielder. The rest in midfield was a 10 on the right side and a striker on the 10 position. It was just waiting for the Dutch to finish their chances. They where never in danger to loose that game unless they made mistakes of their own. Very solid tactical play by the Dutch.

  7. Senegal had so many opportunities to get good crosses in but they lacked quality every time
If netherland play like this when a modric, kdb, messi, eriksen are putting crosses in they will lose big time

  8. Solid defenses win world cups. Netherlands has arguably the best defense of the tournament name by name and they have great chemistry between them too. I can see them reaching at least QF or SF

  9. The thing is, no one needs to tell a dutch side that they played a poor game. Holland are very much aware they didn’t perform as well as they can and that’s our pitfall. We always want to play good, fast and beautiful football, but sometimes you just need an ugly win. Most dutch players weren’t comfortable today and you play the African champion right away. I also didn’t see our strongest side today, but van Gaal chose to make some tactical decisions.

Not being your best doesn’t mean you need to lose the game and we are adapting that mentality slowly from other football nations. This was a typical a tournament win. Very happy with the 3 points.
