  6. hearts, hibs, aberdeen, dundee united – all teams outwith the old firm that have proven themselves at european level.
    aberdeen are the only scottish team to have won two european trophies. The old firm dominate scottish football, but this season look at hibs and dundee united – they outclass any mls side.
    btw, the goal scorer in the vid – derek riordan now plays for hibs and scored twice in their 5-1 win over hamilton today..

  8. How is that any different than Scotland. Anyone who is actually pretty good, either moves to the old firm, england or somewhere else. Face it, if you're a fan of hibs or hearts motherwell or whoever else.
    You can't raise your nose up at MLS, the quality is about the same. You guys have more depth, because of the salary cap but that's it.

    But I'm almost sure, that the Fire could beat Falkirk. MLS teams have managed to be Mexican teams and I rate the Mexican champ over Falkirk and etc.

  9. MLS teams are as good as any team in Scotland outside the Old Firm. Those teams manage to give Celtic a good game in "real" games, so an MLS should as well.

  17. SPL is not that far ahead of MLS. All the talent is concentrated on 2 teams in Scotland whereas in MLS the talent is distributed throughout the league. When Celtic or Rangers play a bottom SPL team the bottom team might as well forfeit. It's a foregone conclusion who's going to win and not even real competition. It's like taking candy from a baby for Rangers and Celtic. I'm not dissing SPL. Scottish teams did very well in Europe this year but SPL is boring to me due to lack of competition.

  18. You are completely missing JYD0402's point and putting words into his mouth. He's not saying that MLS is close to Celtic so why do you accuse him of that? He's saying that the gap in quality is not as big as European's think. As someone who has attended many MLS and European matches, he is correct, the gap is not as big as most people think….that is all he is stating…where does he say that friendlies are meaningful, which is what you have accused him of saying?

  19. I live in Scotland and I think the MLS in some ways is better than the SPL. The majority of the talent in the SPL is concentrated on 2 teams, whereas the talent in MLS is more evenly distributed throughout the league.

  23. You can't compare these leagues. Celtic and Rangers have been around since the 1800s. The MLS teams are only 10 years old. Soccer isn't the most popular sport here so the American talent plays American football, baseball, basketball, and hockey along with soccer. Angel is still a very good player and AV was stupid to reject him.

  24. In the NASL, the American soccer league in the 70s, there was no salary cap. The Cosmos bought Pele and Beckambauer and had great attendance and huge profits. But all the other teams failed because they big market teams like the Cosmos took all of the good players. The salary cap adds parity to the league. The MLS salary cap is getting bigger and bigger each year, along with the Beckham rule. It plays a non-factor in talent.

  27. I actually agree wholeheartedly with this comment. (Minus the St. Louis thing, I'm Fire 'Til I Die) I'm a Fire and Celtic supporter, and comparing the two is like apples and oranges. You just can't. They're to great clubs and I love them both. Period.

  42. I was at this game. It was my first live MLS game and I must say it was a blast. I sat right next to Section 8 which made it even more fun. Fun times and I can't wait to attend many more Fire games once I move to Chicago.
