  1. Del Piero, come on buddy let's face it they will never be another team like 2006 ..?. The new generation they're horrible..? maestro let me ask you something what do you think is better not participating in the world cup or losing two games one after another one in the tournament in the first round..?? My personal opinion I think there's no different if you're not good enough to qualify what makes you think you going to win the tournament… Not even 3 replace… Italy has no team they have no strikers…. What do you think the new players know how to play like you? They're far away from 2006 team..

  2. I think it's hilarious Italy not qualifying . Could happen a nicer bunch if arrogant strutting pricks. Then Del Piero comes on and I feel for him. Should get him on more but he is probably busy doing something more worthwhile. Sorry for your pain Del boy but you could change nationalities

  3. I completely agree with Del Piero. Whenever Italy are underdogs and no one really expects them to win anything, they win it or go a lot further. Same thing with my favorite team Milan (AC not Inter).

  4. 6:38 "reconstruct the youth development". That is the real way to save Italian football. I just wonder if Italian "Managers" are willing to do it. They talked a lot in 2018 after the world cup qualifying was missing, but nothing has been made. I am worried they will change nothing. This is typical of Italian politicians and managers, an absolute disgrace for Italy

  5. Alex is right on all counts, an excellent analysis. There are 2 other key issues with Italian football. One of them he touched on. Whenever an Italian national team delivers a title or goes close, the desire, rather than grow (having had the taste of success) diminishes – and markedly. It has been replicated time and again. The 1982 WC winning squad fell apart in the Euro 84 qualifiers and were legless in 86. The 94 WC r/up were bounced out of Euro 96 in the group stage. The 2006 WC winners were battlers in Euro 2008 and a disaster at WC 2010. And that leads us to the other stark failure – not mutually exclusive – managers sticking with those who have delivered a title out of some kind of warped loyalty, irrespective of their form. From Bearzot to Sacchi to Lippi … and now Mancini. They are either not brave enough or simply do not know how to refresh and restart and, frankly, often don't have the cattle.

  6. National team in past world cups
    2010 Group stage
    2014 Group stage
    2018 Didn't qualify
    2022 Didn't qualify

Italian clubs are underperforming time after time in European competitions. There is a problem in the entire system.

  7. The Macedonians were second in their group, as were the Italians in theirs. In this cycle, they beat the Germans on the road, and I think they deserve respect, not underestimation. Football is not a transfer mark, but people of flesh and blood. All previous results today do not play "hic rhodus hic salta".

    Forward Macedonians, direction Qatar.

  8. I still don't understand why Balotelli was left off the team. Put him on the bench at least… by the 60 minute mark when you saw you weren't cashing in on all the chances, PUT HIM IN….

  9. I respectfully disagree with our legend del Piero. We could have kept playing for 10 years against north Macedonia and we couldn’t have scored. Think about the real issue here. Are you genuinely saying that Italy doesn’t have a talent pool capable of winning games against Northern Ireland , Bulgaria, Switzerland? It isn’t about talent pool. It’s about keeping players who got a belly full last year and had downed tools.

  10. Mancini wasn’t thinking straight and that cost us everything . Balotelli should’ve been put in, as well as – scamaca , zaniolo, raspadori , Berardi was fine , Verratti was class . Everyone else was terrible . Such a sad night

  11. 2:45 "If we play 10 more times we'll win 10 more times" Really? dude don't be funny!

The previous time Italy played against Macedonia (in Italy) it finished 1-1 and in Macedonia you won 2-3 with a goal in the last minute.

So the last 3 matches were hard and close (one draw, and two victories for each team with last minute goals). So based on that, how can you be so sure that if you play you'll win 10 more times? This just shows how some football "authorities" like Del Piero can sometimes talk nonsese.

  12. Jorginho is a show boat. Italy needs to develop two Pogba esque types that are hard to knock off the ball in midfield who can make long passes and be dangerous scoring options from a distance. You have Chiesa who can be on the far right or left side when he is healthy. You also need clinical strikers.

Moise Kean is a good prospect that needs more play time.

    Upgrade the D as well.

My formation would be the following:

    2 strikers (Kean, Scamacca)

3 midfielders (Lorenzo Pellegrini, Zaniolo, Chiesa) Chiesa can act as a bursting mid/striker hybrid. While we wait for Chiesa have Balotelli play on the right side.

5 defenders (1 of which plays up a bit which would be Barella) Barella, Mancini, Bastoni, Rugani, De Sciglio)

    goalie

  13. Why someone would think that Berardi or Raspadori are better players than Trajkovski or Ademi? Because they play in Sassuolo? Are you serious? That is in general problem with football nowadays. Overrated and over payed players just because they play in big leagues with big sponsors and expensive TV rights in completely commercialized football.

  14. the problem is the same with all old organizations..the old heads of the structure don't know when to walk away because they have been there wayyyy too long..From the top to the bottom..They are all about not accepting change and "what's in it for me"? They are not in it for the right reasons..The development of the program must always improve and not stay stagnant just as the old players on the field..Italy's structure must get out of it's own way and allow progress..stop with the stadium improvement obstacles..ALL organizations have people that get in the way of progress and change..This prevents young new thinkers to get involved because the "old guy" still wants to be relevant..it's nauseating
