A call for change from Federico Bernardeschi following Toronto FC’s latest loss to Austin FC last weekend, doubled-down upon afterward by the Italian, has spiralled into soap opera levels of drama as head coach Bob Bradley has responded to his star player’s public comments by leaving him at home for the team’s next match, the consequence of undermining his authority.
So… what happens next for the Reds? We discuss on OneSoccer Today!

Garett Wheeler’s OPINION is all wrong.
On a side note, the squad is too slow (physically and mentally). A whole lot needs to change. Jonathan Osorio should be sent to Inter Miami, Austin FC, LA Galaxy, Colorado or San Jose. There should be a focus on getting Akinola good showing, so he will be worth something before we ship him out. Bob J and Victor V. should be dropped from the playing squad as well as hired and developed as an assistant coach for the club at some level.
It is ridiculous that Bernardeschi is not in the squad this weekend. If it is at fault for this weekend’s loss, it is Bob Bradley. Good man, but has to go.
Unless there is an unlikely possibility of signing Tata Martinez or Bruce Arena, what are Juan Carlos Osorio or even Ricardo La Volpe (Get him a cigarette, and a translator.) doing at the moment? Maybe sign them or someone similar on a short term contract, and offer them the position if he meets targets. A demanding manager with NO MLS experience is needed, look to Europe, or someone with European experience (NOT Jesse Marsch), or maybe even Asia (maybe Jordi Vinyals or Scott Cooper), and who can help the squad improve for the rest of the season is needed. Some of those mentioned are not well known, but be realistic, an also accept that Bradley’s time a manager, (although a swell man), has come to an end. Again, maybe ask Bernardeschi for reasonable suggestions.
The problem is, who is available, and who could do any better. The possibility winning the Support’s Shield is all over. There is a chance to compete MLS Cup, but it is just a glorified consolation prize to keep clubs interested after realizing that finishing top of the table is not an option because there is no club relegation.
I paid for MLS Season Pass to watch the TFC matches. However, I have struggled to watch a whole match. They are not spectacular. They are playing poor. Although Bernardeschi may have been wrong to voice his frustrations to the media, he statement was not an opinion, but a FACT. Bernardeschi is correct, and it would probably be a good idea if the powers that be at MLSE asked him about who he feels may be a good managerial replacement, because Bob should go, not now, but yesterday, or even before last week.
Robert (Bob) Bradley said Bernardeschi was out of line. I agree the players should stay in line, but whose fault is it that they are out of line? Expectations have not been met. Although there are injuries, the squad is not playing well, and player discontent is showing. Bradley is clearly not the man at the moment.
Frustration of playing on a bad team with a bad manager with a bad front office leads to some players that are actually performing to say things that obviously rub people the wrong way.
Petrillo was spot on in asking who is the grownup in the room. Wheeler is out to lunch and doesn't understand that leadership and respect is EARNED, not inherited. It is obvious that Bradley has lost the respect of his players. It is still contingent on him to step up and defuse the situation. We live in transparent times, and 'old school' Wheeler needs to adjust his thought processes. Good commentary by Platt. Obvious that leadership skills are lacking in this (and most) organizations, and putting out the fire does not mean dealing with it behind totally closed doors. Only the Italians have made their voices public, would not be surprised if there is way more heat under the covers. Manning and company should be thinking about a proper conflict resolution strategy as this has and will affect all the players.
First Michael Bradley has been horrible the past 4 years ! Then his moronic father comes in and is a horrible coach. He sucked at Swansea and was a disaster as USA coach ! MLSE doesn’t have a clue in what it is doing !
There's an article on The Athletic that reveals Manning initially wanted to sign Ronaldo in the summer of 2021, and only signed Insigne after looking at TRANSFERMARKT.
Imagine being the PRESIDENT and using a public site to make multi million $$ decisions FFS.
someone tell them the "give it to the Italians" thing only works in movies
People seem to forget about the amount of baby momma drama that's going on within the squad too…
If I were in Toronto, I'd be whipping up a "Bradley out" banner.
EDIT: Enough of this "back the manager" nonsense. He's hopeless.
Awful product on the field….BRUTAL stuff. The usual situation is the coach gets canned.
Bring it on. 🥴
OK I am so going crazy over all this political correctness. Wheels: please explain WHY the media wishes to interview players, and WHY as a fan I should waste me time watching those interviews, IF players can't comment on the issues and challenges they see after losing match after match after match? PLEASE fill me in on what we're all doing here?
And BTW, Bernie's comments did not name the Manager. I took his comment to mean that things were not working on the field. For all I know, Bernie could agree with Bob's approach but thinks many players are not getting on the same page. So I think Bernie's comments were very appropriate, and Bob's comment was publicly harsh. Bob Bradley's response should have been: "Bernie's take has merit and we are working to make improvements in our play's cohesion."
The whole damn coaching staff and back office need to be fired immediately! Bradley is clearly toxic!
Bradley has to take some of the blame for sure. But the Italians are over paid and are not that good. They are massively over paid for what they are producing on the field.
Clown club 🤡🤡
Gareth showing again his lack of ball knowledge
The real problem is there isn’t really a leadership group in the team.
With oso and M bradley out, who are the leaders right now?
Bradley Record with TFC: from Nov 24, 2021 until May 20, 2023….. 53 Games, 13 W, 16 D, 24 L… a 24.53 W%
MLSE and Bob Bradley is destroying this club.
The amount of talent TFC actually has when u start talking about Richie and Jonathan… few more, they should be winning, but it looks like the coach has them playing a system that doesn’t work for the players . Js
Gotta agree with Oliver, Bob is already public enemy number one and by not reconciling with Berna, he is digging his own grave.
So your gonna bench your best player and proven goal scorer on a team that struggles to score ! 🤡 show continues😂
manager has to win this battle!
TFC is always after gimmics. I called thie Bradley Captain and Coach situation to end up as a mistake. Coach has to go. Besides players b!tching, main thing is that the team just not playing winning soccer. For too long. Thank you Coach and best of luck in your next project!
Wheeler is living in the past. This isn't 1990. This isn't the military. Star players have a say in coaching and management now.
Look at "LeBron the GM"… Look at the Bucks having Giannis interview the next potential Bucks coach.
If your star isn't on board with the team philosophy/tactics and personnel decisions, the coach/GM can't stay.
Fire Bob Bradley. It's simple. Our best players don't like him. He hasn't produced results after totally remaking the team exactly as he wanted.
Get rid of Michael, as well. He is no longer useful as a player. The Bradleys' reign at TFC needs to come to an end.
